My Travel Essentials Bits & Bobs
My Travel Essentials
My friend Nena suggested I write something to help people prepare for traveling. I guess this is a bit overdue but better late then never. This is what I brought for my trips during Thanksgiving and Christmas. I suppose I would say that this is catered for longer vacations of 1-2 weeks rather than a long weekend.
NYX Cosmetics – In Love with Paris Palette – Let them eat cake!
Essence – All about Matt! Fixing Compact – Translucent
Sheer Cover – Duo Concealer
Stila – Shimmer Duo
MyMix Foundation – Fair 02 (travel size)
NYX Cosmetics – Glossy Black LIner
Urban Decay – Primer Potion (travel size)
Inglot Cream Blush – #80
Blistex – Lip Balm – Berry Smoothie (mini)
Benefit – They’re real mascara (mini)
Too Faced – La Creme Lipstick – Spice Spice Baby
Sonia Kashuk – Eyelash Curler
Revlon – Lip Butter – Watermelon
My biggest tip for traveling is to bring travel size items, decant larger containers or save up your deluxe beauty samples so that you can maximize your options without sacrificing your space. I also like to opt for items that are slim and offer multiple functions.
For instance, I really love the NYX palette for travel purposes. It is so slim, has 9 different colors and I really like how it has a clear top making it easy to spot. Also I had chosen the stila highlighter and sheer cover concealer duo because they offer 2 colors in one so I can customize on the go. Another great tip is if you have a bit more space is to choose 2 shades from both ends of the color spectrum. I often will pack a neutral lip color and a bright pink lip color or hot pink blush with a berry blush.
Skincare / Other
Halls cough drops
Juice Beauty Blemish Serum (decanted into a body shop sample container)
DermOrganic cleanser, face moisturizer and lotion (travel size)
John Frieda Full Repair Shampoo/Conditioner
I like to mix up my travel essentials with items that are tried and true and those that are brand-new to me. I always bring tweezers, cough drops and my Juice Beauty Blemish Serum. You never know when a breakout is going to happen!
I received the John Frieda samples for free in a makeup order and the DermOrganic kit was a sample given for free at the iFabbo event. I normally have a hard time working samples into my everyday routine so I find that trips are usually where I get to really put new items to the test. I tried both of these items. I found that they did the job but I don’t think they wow’ed me to re-purchase or rotate into my main collection.
Bits & Bobs
Hair elastics / clips
Travel Size container of cotton swabs
Crabtree & Evelyn citron hand cream (travel size)
Dove Deodorant (travel size)
Sephora Marchesa Parfum D’Extase 0.17 oz Eau de Parfum Rollerball
These are things that I find essential to my everyday routine regardless if I am traveling or at home. I like things to be clean and nice-smelling.
I am a bit obsessed with how amazing the Bath & Body Works hand santizers are. They come in a variety of scents and I have them stashed in every handbag and shelf I have. They clean your hands and leave them smelling delicious without the alcohol scent most hand santizers leave.
Crabtree & Evelyn citron hand cream is another delicious smelling, creamy and soothing hand cream.
If you haven’t tried Marchesa’s perfume, it a lovely light floral. The travel size isn’t nearly as beautiful as the full size bottle but it’s sure handy on the go!
Bits & Bobs #2
A set of badger hair brushes from Crown Brushes (travel size)
Pssst dry shampoo (travel size)
Lancome Bi-Facil makeup remover (travel size)
Nail Polish Remover Pads (mini)
Claritin D – allergy meds
I would have to say that Psst dry shampoo is my favorite dry shampoo. It blends flawlessly into my hair, gives volume and provides a cooling sensation. I love using it for second day hair at home and on the go.
I like to be ready for any weather or condition I may encounter so I always keep a supply of allergy meds, cough drops, tums and headache pills. Often I’ll just stuff them all into a tiny bottle to save on space. It doesn’t mean we often get sick but I just don’t want to run to pharmacy late at night.
Crown Brushes – Set 602 Mini Badger Cosmetics Brush set $18.99 – site link
*This was received as PR sample for a honest review
This set comes with 7 brushes and 1 button snap black pouch. The pouch is very travel friendly since it is smaller than my regular wallet with all the brushes in it.
I found to be a nice set because the quality and density of the brushes remain true to a regular brush set. The brush handles are about 75% the length of a normal brush. Most of the bristle heads are comparable to a regular brush head. I only found that foundation brush was a bit smaller than normal but still usable.
I really liked how sturdy the wooden handles feel, the brushes washed well with no shedding and felt comfortable to use. I find that a lot of travel sets too flimsy when it comes to the actual density of the bristles but this set is not. I would recommend powder and blush brushes. They applied very nice and were easy to use.
I suppose the downside to these brushes was that I found the badger material while being dense and firm, they were too scratchy on my eyelids. I would prefer a softer material on my eyelids as it is a sensitive area and I like my eye brushes to be a bit fluffier.
Anyways, if you like denser brushes or badger hair makeup brushes, I think this kit would be right down your alley. It’s good value and offers quality. However, I am not sure this is right travel brushes for me. I think I will continue my search…
*All items were purchased by me with exception of Crown Brushes – PR Sample & DermOrganics set which was gifted to be at iFabbo blogger conference, there was no monetary compensation and all opinions are of my own*
